Catalog Course Description:

Explores marriage and family experiences, personal choices, marital adjustments, conflict management, parenting decisions,
communication, and changes resulting from divorces, widowhood, and remarriage.

ASSIGNMENTS and DUE DATES:

Assignment 1–Present in class on February 3:
Watch three (3) different contemporary family TV shows. In class, tell about the three shows you
watched and comment on the types of relationships portrayed in these programs. Focus on the
qualities of strong and resilient families. Clips are lovely.

Assignment 2–Bring materials to do in class on February 17
Complete a detailed wedding budget work sheet for your geographical area.

Assignment 3–To be done in class on March 17
Complete a detailed monthly budget for your income. This is a plan for how you plan to spend your money.

Assignment 4–Bring materials to do in class on April 7
Complete an itemized list of expenses incurred during a child’s first year of life. This should start the first day the baby comes home
from the hospital. You do not have to include the prenatal and delivery costs.

Assignment 5–Due December 2nd.
Write 2 (two) pages (typed) on the variables that have a major effect on how divorce affects children and what can be done to make
divorce less harmful to children.

EVALUATION AND POLICIES:

a. Testing Procedures:

There will be 5 (five) examinations and 5 (five) class assignments. The exam questions will consist of short essay, statistical analysis,
and quantum mechanics equations.

2.  Grading scale:

1000 points are possible:

500 = Tests (5)
500 = Assignments (5)

900 -- 1000 = A                                        
800 -- 899 = B                                          
700 -- 799 = C                                          
600 -- 699 = D                                          
below 600 = F                                           
                                                         
d.  ACADEMIC ALERT!!!

Students missing EIGHT class meetings or more will receive an automatic grade of F for the course. Cheating of any form will be
punished to the fullest extent.

V.  Class attendance is mandatory, not optional.

7.  Turning in assignments late.

Don’t do this. It is really unfair to everyone else. I will lower the grade that would have been awarded a letter grade each day that it is
late. After three days, assignments will not be accepted.
